I decided to dedicate myself to Body Fitness because opportunities in television weren’t coming my way. At the time, I was already into weight training, but I never imagined it would lead to worldwide success. It was such a pleasant surprise!
When I competed at the WFBB World Championship in Canada, making it to the podium felt like a distant dream. The competition was incredible—so many women with amazing muscle symmetry and maturity. We were divided into several classes because of the sheer number of participants. But August 25th, 2012, became one of the most unforgettable days of my life. My hard work paid off when I earned 2nd place in the Diva Fitness Models +35 category.
Throughout this journey, one of the biggest challenges has been staying focused for months at a time. There are moments when it feels overwhelming because the discipline, both physical and mental, is so demanding. I’ve also faced criticism for being a woman in bodybuilding, with people claiming it makes women lose their femininity. At the time, those comments hurt—especially because I went to Canada proud to represent Portugal, even carrying our flag with me. Winning 2nd place was a huge achievement, but coming back to some negativity was tough. Looking back, though, the love and support I received far outweighed the criticism. And as for my body? I feel more feminine and attractive than ever. I love what I see in the mirror, and that’s what matters most.
Another proud moment in my life was posing for Playboy. It was truly a dream come true. I’ve admired Playboy since I was young, especially because of my love for Marilyn Monroe, who appeared on its very first cover. Playboy chooses only the most exceptional women, and being featured felt like reaching the pinnacle of success in men’s magazines—there’s nothing better!
Unfortunately, I haven’t had many acting opportunities lately, but I haven’t given up. I still believe I can return to it someday—anything is possible. In the meantime, I know I need to pursue other passions to stay fulfilled. Otherwise, frustration sets in. Thankfully, I’ve found happiness and purpose in fitness, which has become such an important part of my life.
